How long are you at risk for blood clots after lipo?

A clot will most likely form 2 to 10 days after surgery, but the chances remain high for about 3 months. Smoking is believed to increase the risk of thromboembolism. Liposuction patients should be encouraged to stop smoking several weeks before surgery. Informed consent should include a warning that smoking cigarettes increases the risk of blood clots forming in the legs, lungs, and brain.
